* Diaper Cake *

I constructed my first of hopefully many diaper cakes for Kiwi’s baby shower.  With the help of Mrs. Crafty Nest, I was able to find good tutorials online, and even some great ideas.  I constructed my cake using Alpha Mom’s own tutorial, and would like to show you how I assembled mine.

Things you will need:

·        *   Diapers (I had bought two 42 Pack of the size 2, 12-18 lbs since it was cheaper than buying a larger set)
·        *   A Lot of Rubber Bands of Assorted Sizes
·        *  A Bottle of Champagne
·         *  A Serving Plate
·         *  Ribbon (I used two different types of ribbon that were not wired)
·         *  Any Decoration You See That is Fitting
·         *  Hot Glue Gun
·         *  Double Sided Sticky Tape/Double Sided Fabric Tape
·         *  Gerber Daisy or Any Other Topper You Would Like to Use

Step 1:
Open the package of diapers, and begin rolling from the bottom, or folded part of the diaper up to the open end.  Secure with a rubber band in the center of the diaper.  Repeat this until all the diapers are rolled.

Step 2:
Place champagne bottle in the middle of the serving plate.  Place the rolled diapers around the champagne bottle with the rolled end facing inward (the champagne bottle).  Once you established the first layer, place a rubber band around the diapers and bottle to keep the diapers in place.  Afterwards, place a second ring of diapers around the first ring, use another rubber band to fix the diapers, and then a third around the second, also secure with additional rubber band.  This will be the first tier in the diaper cake.  Repeat this process for the second tier and third tier, making sure that it is one ring smaller than the tier below it.

Step 3:
Paint any decorations that may need it.  Then let them dry.  I had found adorable letters, and had gotten Mac D’s initials, as well as some monkeys which I added bows to with a hot glue gun.

Step 4:
Measure out the ribbon for the tiers and cut.  I used a lighter to burn the frayed edges to make it look a bit cleaner at the seams.  With double sided fabric tape secure the smaller ribbon to the larger ribbon, and then attach it around the cake with one more piece of tape.  Place the cake topper on top in the center of the cake to hide the hole, and any other decorations you may have bought.  I used hot glue to carefully attach the letters to the ribbon.  Make sure if you opt to use a hot glue gun to not get any on the diapers, otherwise they will be unusable.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, and that it makes sense!  After all, this is the first time I have tried to explain this.
